Stationary phase

magicmolly:

If you are facing north in a north-facing room at 9 AM in July, the light does a weird thing. If you look out the window you’ll see pedestrians walking into or against the light, and by this angle the light would seem to have no way of entering the room.

Somehow it does. White, sourceless light beams through the window and hits the floor in reflective patches. It doesn’t seem to enter acutely. The only thing I can think of is that we’re not facing true north.

Hours after reading this note, unusually still fresh in my mind, I stumbled upon this photograph. Exactly the one these words evoked!
